Father-Daughter Dinner Dance

One of the most cherished traditions at St. Francis High School, the Father-Daughter Dinner Dance always evokes touching comments from the dads. Below are a few from the December 11, 2009 event:

I remember the DJ putting on a song by The Black-Eyed Peas and all the girls singing to it on the dance floor. All these lovely young women, happy and confident, with their eyes to their future -- and my daughter was one ofthem! I'll never forget that!

Joe Milton (Elaina '13)

As I sat at the dinner table watching Allison laugh and carry on at dinner, then socialize while waiting for pictures and later as we danced on what has to be the most crowded and frenetic dance floor in Sacramento, I was divided between feelings of joy at the fun of this event and melancholy knowing this is Allison’s last St. Francis father daughter dance and my final dance after six years and two daughters at St. Francis.  What great memories!  I will appreciate these occasions for the rest of my life.

Brendan O’Neill (Kristen ’08 and Allison ’10)

The Father-Daughter Dance was for me one of the highlights of Gabbi's first semester at SFHS.  We had a great time on our "date" and I especially enjoyed meeting and interacting with more of the St. Francis dads and running into and catching up with dads who are old friends. I no longer live in Sacramento fulltime and it was a much-appreciated and fun event!  The dance judge tossed me too soon though!

David Tan (Gabriela Smith Tan ’13)

This was my fifth Father-Daughter Dance. It is a great time to bond with our daughters.  I feel sorry for other schools who do not have a tradition like this. The location is great and the atmosphere is fun.  No matter what is on the schedule, it will be cleared to attend this dance. I feel sad that I will only be able to attend 3 more Father-Daughter dances.

Mark Holzer (Samantha '06 & Jessica '13)

Fantastic opportunity to dress-up spend time with your daughter and show her how a lady is suppose to be treated. Carly also has told me that it is always the best dance of the year.

Mark Demetre (Carly10)

With our busy schedules, it is a rare opportunity to enjoy an special "dressy" evening with my beautiful girls! I wouldn't miss this event for the world.  Thank you St Francis!

Greg Evrigenis (Amelia ’11 and Maia ’13)

This years Father-Daughter Event was simply the best event that my daughter and I’ve ever attended! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this a memorable event!

Kirk Dowdell (Michelle ’13)

The St Francis Father Daughter dance has become a family tradition. It started with my oldest Daughter and continues with my youngest. We have never left the dance floor until the last song is over! It’s great to see the kids having so much fun together. Great memories that will last a lifetime!

Tony Riehl (Meghan ’07 and Missy ’12)

Who says teenage girls don’t want to hang with their dads on a Friday night?  And have a good time!

Dave Artale (Tessa ’09 and Sara ’12)

Payton and I had a blast. It’s always fun to meet the parents, or dads in this case, of some of the girls I’ve met at school or other activities. The best part is getting our picture taken together. We always display them in our home and distribute some of the smaller ones to family and friends.

Joe O’Neal (Payton ’11)

The whole evening was amazing: the Convention Center, the decorations, the music, the dancing and most of all, the young ladies and their dads. One of the funnest evenings I have ever spent with my daughter.

Donald Semon (Taylor ’13)

I have been looking forward to my first father/daughter dance at St Francis with Jessica for years. It was everything I expected and more. The last time I really remember dancing with Jessica was at a Girl Scout dance when she was maybe 8 years old and she was looking up at me with a big smile and “Brown Eyed Girl” was playing.  She is a little taller now and this dinner dance will always be a special moment in my life with Jessica.  Bravo to the staff that organized this first class event.

Jesse Gutierrez (Jessica ’13)

I found the evening fantastic but getting there in a rain storm after a crazy final at her basketball tournament is the real story.   In our haste we forgot the camera and only have one picture from that night.  It’s okay though, instead we have memories of racing home, splashing through the rain, eating late and dancing the night away with a bunch of screaming girls and dads with wide grins!

Michael Ochoa (Natalie ’12)

This was my 12th year in a row attending a Father/Daughter Dinner Dance (eight at Loretto and the last four at SFHS).  Lia is the last of three daughters to graduate and I will miss this special event.  Dance is a big part of our lives and the opportunity to have Lia as my dance partner for the evening was a gift.  It was here where I got to meet many of Lia's friends and their dates (fathers, grandfathers, uncles, etc.)  Great memories - muchisimas gracias.

Nick Montoya (Lia ’10)

Father Daughter Dance-Ah the memories! Pure innocence, great fun, and best date ever (next to her mother)! What a great feeling this event inspires in us fathers. Our other daughter, who finished St. Francis (and is about to finish college), told her younger freshman sister, "Don't miss this event-best fun ever." I often reminisce with my older daughter the memories from Father Daughter dance at St. Francis. Thanks for the memories.

Dr. Nicholas Rotas (Christina ’06 & Katherine ’13)

In their fourth year at this event, the seniors were now seated in the tables in the back.  Being new though, the freshmen were up front next to the stage.  We could feel the vibrations across the ballroom floor as the d.j. pounded out music and the first year daughters were spilling off the small dance floor.  Weren’t all the girls surprisingly beautiful outside of their daily school uniform, arts wear, and sports gear?

Charles Chan (Alexandra ’10)

What a wonderful celebration, not to be missed! I will never forget the sight and sound of several hundred Troubies and dads on the dance floor, singing along to Miley Cyrus Party in the USA.

Tom Byerly (Alyssa '13)

I've never had more fun at a high school event, including my own. You get caught up in all that GIRL energy, and the feet just refuse to stand still.

Ted Wun (Alicia ’12)

The St. Francis Father-Daughter Dance is a tradition that we look forward to each year.   It’s our one special night together.  Out of all the great events and activities at St. Francis, this is by far the one that I am going to miss most when Camille graduates next year.

Suheil Totah (Camille ’11)

I was blessed to have two awesome "Dates" for what the girls describe as the "Event" of the year. My dancing skills need serious improvement, as Tim (Stephanie) Lewis out break danced me with Carly (Kent) Ramos, however Lexi Whaley promises to get my hop on for next year. Wild horses couldn't drag me away from next year's dance.

Dan Whaley (Angelica ’11 & Lexi ’13)

If my daughter looks back one day and finds half the same kind of memories that I have kept from the F&D Dances she will be so thrilled. This was my second dance within the St. Francis tradition and as long as the Good Lord gives me the strength I plan to do them all.

Jose Bandala (Alexa ’12)

It was my first Father Daughter Dance with my sophomore daughter Nikki and the atmosphere was as elegant and beautiful as all the daughters in attendance. Thank you, St. Francis, for this very special occasion, which allowed me to share some very precious time with my littlest princess.

Russell Read (Nikki ’12)

The 2008-09 Father-Daughter Dinner Dance was held December 12, 2008, at the Sacramento Convention Center.

Dinner Dance 2008 Photo Gallery...

It is Father-Daughter Dance tradition to have a Treasure Chest . The girls purchase keys and if their key opens the lock they receive a prize. This activity is always very exciting and is very popular with the girls.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our treasure chest! It was a big success!
