2016 Tennis Highlights

  • St. Francis reached the quarterfinals of the CIF/USTA Northern California Regional Tennis Championships presented by Farmers before a 5-2 loss to third-seeded Amador Valley
  • The Troubadour tennis team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals before losing to Oak Ridge (7-2). They advanced with wins over Vacaville (9-0), Rocklin (7-2) and Del Oro (5-4). The Troubadours advanced to NorCals after posting a win over McClatchy in the play-in match.
  • St. Francis finished with an 18-3 record on the season under Kristi Spector, posting a perfect undefeated 12-0 mark in Delta League play. It was the second consecutive league title for the Troubadours.
  • Spector was named the Delta League Coach of the Year.
  • St. Francis placed six players on the All-Delta League team. Kiya and Kyla Jackson were named to the team for the second consecutive season. Seniors Sabrina Voeller and Macy Wood joined sophomore Myra Anwar and freshman Adithi Benush for their first selections.
  • Kiya and Kyla Jackson defended their Delta League doubles title and represented the league in the Sac-Joaquin Section Individual doubles tournament. They defeated Lauren Duan and Lyna Jiang of Davis 6-3, 5-4 before the Blue Devil pair had to retire in the second set of the final. To reach the final, they defeated teammates Macy Wood and Sabrina Voeller in the semifinals 6-0, 6-1 and Cameron Parra and Samantha Sonntag in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-1. They lost in the semifinals of the section doubles.
  • Freshman Adithi Benush defeated teammate Myra Anwar to advance to the finals of the Delta League Singles Championships 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5). She earned a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section bracket and advanced to the quarterfinals.
  • Myra Anwar was named the team’s most valuable player. She posted an 8-8 record at the No. 1 singles position.
  • Senior Annie Gianulias won the Delta League Sportsmanship Award. She went a combined 17-2 on the season with a 13-1 record at No. 6 singles.
  • Senior Abby Benvenuti won the Golden Ball Award. She went 16-3 overall playing at four different singles spots and the top two doubles positions.
  • Junior Kyla Jackson led the team with 19 wins overall, while Kiya Jackson won 18 and Marisa Fat and Annie Gianulias each won 17.
