Hole-in-One Highlights Center Match Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Chase Saca had an ace on the 17th hole at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course on Monday as part of four-over par round of 75 as St. Francis won its second Delta League Center match.

“It was my first hole-in-one ever,” said Saca. “I was shocked at first and did not know it went in.”

Saca hit a wedge on the 17th hole island green surrounded by water, hitting the pin on the fly and the ball disappeared in the hole. It was her first career hole, a golfing achievement many never accomplish in a lifetime on the links.

“I was in between clubs and I did not know what to use,” said Saca. “I decided to just go for it. I hit it and saw it going towards the hole but you never think it is going to actually hit. We hear this load noise like it had hit the pin and we didn’t see where it went. I kinda saw it drop and I looked over at the other player’s faces and they were in shock. It was exciting.”

Saca’s round of 75 was good for third place in the 31-player Delta League field.

“It started off rough, I had a triple (Bogey) on a hole, which is not nice,” said Saca. “The hole in one definitely helped and I ended up with a good round. I am proud I could help my team win.”

St. Francis posted a 398 team score counting the top five scores on the roster, posting a 14-shot win over Pleasant Grove (412). Davis was third with a 428 with Elk Grove in fourth with a 491. It was the second center match title for the team as the Troubadours remained undefeated.

Junior Patricia Sweeney tied for the medalist honors with Marie Dean of Davis with two-over par rounds of 73 (Par 71).

“I think today was a surprise to me,” said Sweeney. “I was not expecting to shoot this well. I have been scoring well but I have not been playing well. Today I pulled it together and kept it going. I had a few bad holes but the birdies equaled it out for me.”

She has been the low scorer or tied for low score in four matches this season, including three in a row after a 34 against Grant and 39 in the match against Sheldon.

“We are ready for it,” said Sweeney for the postseason. “We are ready to get there.”

St. Francis plays Franklin on Wednesday before taking the tee in the final Delta League Center match next Monday.
