SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior A.J. Tanner scored and added two assists in a 4-0 win over Vacaville on Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.

“We scored some goals and defensively we have worked on some things and I could see it was helpful,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “Everyone got a chance to stretch their legs. It was a nice way to start.”

The Troubadours scored four times in the opening 20 minutes of the game to cruise to the victory.

“We have a good group: we have some youth, some speed and some intensity,” said Robinson. “It was fun to be back out here. This is the first time we have had everybody. Everyone was looking sharp in the new uniforms.”

Junior Lindsey Porter scored early off any assist from Tanner in the ninth minute to give SF a lead it would never relinquish.

“It felt good and gave me some confidence,” said Porter of the first goal. “It brought the team up. Our communication was on and it gave us the momentum going in the game.”

Senior Allie Cloninger scored the second goal of her career and first since her sophomore season to improve the lead to 2-0 just two minutes later.

“It was so awesome and my heart was racing,” said Cloninger. “I play center back and do not get much time up top. It was really nice to put one in.”

Tanner scored her goal unassisted to increase the lead to 3-0 at the 15th minute and junior Elise Urkov capped it with a goal off an assist by Tanner four minutes later.

“I was pleasantly surprised because our team in younger compared to the other teams in the league,” said Urkov, who finished with a goal and assist. “We connected really well. We have not had a full team a team at practice yet so it was exciting to see us connect on the field.”

The three goalies combined to post the shutout.

“It was so nice and I think we played really good as a team,” said Cloninger. “We talked a lot and I saw great work from my all my teammates.”

St. Francis remains at home for the second time this week, hosting Mira Loma at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
