Meet SFHS sophomore Lizzie Allison. Lizzie has always been interested in serving others, especially foster youth in our community. She quickly discovered many roadblocks in volunteering with youth, including being too young for potential opportunities. Determined to make a difference, Lizzie figured out a way for all ages to get involved.

Just three short months ago, Lizzie started a non-profit organization called Team Celebrate. Their mission is to help celebrate birthdays for foster children and orphans. Many foster youth have never experienced the joy of a birthday party, and Team Celebrate wants to change that. Along with the help of donors, volunteers, and partners, Team Celebrate is able to provide foster youth organizations and group homes a ‘Birthday Box’ containing all of the supplies necessary to throw a birthday party.

Team Celebrate set a goal to celebrate 100 birthdays in the first year, and since May 2017, they have already celebrated 50 birthdays! Each partner group in need of birthday celebrations can submit a request form that includes the type of birthday the children would like. This allows Team Celebrate to customize the Birthday Boxes to make each child feel special.

Currently they are serving the Sacramento Children’s Home, Lilliput Families, Sierra Forever Families, Koinonia Family Services, and Royal Family Kids. Lizzie’s goals for Team Celebrate are to expand their volunteer base as well as to increase partner groups allowing them to celebrate more birthdays. Lizzie is also working toward Team Celebrate being an approved St. Francis service organization, which will open many doors for our students to make a difference in the underprivileged youth of our community!
