SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Tennis Coach Kristi Spector has been named the Delta League Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

“I am humbled because it is voted on by the other coaches,” said Spector. “It is not who is undefeated or first in your league to be named coach of the year. I appreciate the fact that the others coaches felt that I am connected with my team in a way that they decided to vote me coach of the year.”

St. Francis has gone 17-0 on the season and plays in the Sac-Joaquin Section final on Tuesday at Laguna Creek Racquet Club against Del Oro. The Troubadours have also earned a berth in the CIF Northern California Regional Tournament starting on Friday.

“While she has led our team to numerous victories and awards, I believe that her words of encouragement have helped our team perform well because we can focus on doing our best, not always winning,” said senior Cameron Parra. “When she focuses on the positive aspects of our play instead of the negative, it helps me to do the same and in result, I play better.”

Spector mentored six players to All-Delta League honors this season including league doubles and section champions Kiya and Kyla Jackson.

“She is the heart of our team and I cannot ask for a better tennis coach,” said senior Marisa Fat.

Spector is in her fifth season leading the Troubadour tennis team. She has led the team to three consecutive league titles and five SJS playoff appearances, including the CIF NorCal quarterfinals last season. St. Francis is 74-12 overall since she took over the program.

Spector is assisted by Todd Stanley, Camille Benvenuti and Mary Johnson.
