SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity volleyball team won its Foundation Game on Monday over Roseville 25-18, 25-15, 25-17.

“We did really good,” said senior setter Mady Schildmeyer. “Once we got the jitters out, we connected so well and stayed together as a team. I loved it. It was one of the most fun games I have ever played.”

Schildmeyer led the offense with 77 assists in the contest and added 10 digs, tying sophomore Alexa Edwards for team-high honors. Seven players recorded five more digs in the match. Edwards led the team with 21 kills and hit 47 percent for the contest. Junior Kathryn Kramer added 10 kills and eight digs.

St. Francis opened up the match with a 25-18 win in the first set. But the Tigers came out in the second set to take an early 7-1 lead. After a timeout, the Troubies rebounded to win seven straight points to take back the lead and eventually, control of the match with a 25-15 win.

“We stayed calm and knew we could do it,” said Schildmeyer. “Instead of going through the motions, we (concentrated) executed and practice the next point that we had to get.”

The Troubadours closed the match with a 25-17 victory in the third set.

St. Francis will host Oak Ridge in their season opener on Wednesday with all three levels in action starting at 4:30 p.m.

“We are going to take our team effort onto Wednesday and work a little more on communicating and keeping our voices on the court,” said Schildmeyer. “We want to take this energy and positivity into the match.”
