SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Alexa Edwards was named to the 2017 MaxPreps Sophomore All-American Volleyball team, the website announced. Edwards was one of 23 players named to the squad and one of three Californians on the national roster.

“It is a complete honor,” said Edwards. “This award gives me the opportunity to thank everyone for what they have done for me and all the coaches and people have that pushed me.”

Edwards was named the Delta League Most Valuable Player after leading the league with 512 kills (15th in the state) with a league-best 4.7 kills per set and 333 digs with the second-best per set average of 3.0. She was also third in hitting percentage (.280). It was the second all-league honor for Edwards.

She led the team as a captain, helping the Troubadours win the league title, advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals and be selected to the CIF State Open Division bracket. St. Francis lost to eventual state champion Archbishop Mitty.

“Winning league was a big accomplishment for us,” said Edwards. “Even though we lost in the section finals, just getting there was an amazing accomplishment.”

Edwards was also named to the MaxPreps All-Freshman season after her breakout initial campaign.

“It is a true pleasure to coach an athlete of her caliber, talent and desire to become the best she can be,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “She works hard every day she is in the gym. The trait I like the best is that she is humble. She puts the team ahead of herself on a day-to-day basis.”
