SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Molly Wilson will sign with Cal Poly on Wednesday to join the Mustangs Diving team next fall.

“I am really excited because I really love the sport,” said Wilson. “It is nice to be able to continue it another four years in a place I want to be.”

Wilson plans to study biology at the school.

Cal Poly competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, finishing sixth overall last season with two divers placing among the top three at the conference meet. The program produced 18 MPSF All-Academic selections last year.

“When I went to visit, I saw they have a really good team and a good group of student-athletes,” said Wilson. “I felt really comfortable around them.”

Wilson switched to the sport after competing in gymnastics and has become a star at the high school level.

“With gymnastics it always stayed the same,” said Wilson. “With diving, it is nice because you can always have new things you can learn. I feel like I have more opportunity with diving than I did gymnastics. It is more competitive to me because there are more dives I want to learn and people I want to compete against.”

She has won consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section titles and advanced to the last two CIF State Championships. She is also the defending Delta League champion.

“Hopefully I can continue to improve at states,” said Wilson, who wants to want to work on her front dives and increase the degree of difficulty.

Wilson will dive again for Head Coach Dede Crayne this spring for the Troubadours.

“Dede has been great,” said Wilson. “Since I first met her, she has been cheerleader and always my No. 1 supporter in diving. It is nice to have that kind of support around me.”

Wilson will participate in the St. Francis Signing Day event on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
