Soccer Wins First Delta League Game

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Anna Gregg had a hat trick and added an assist as St. Francis won its first Delta League game 4-1 at Elk Grove. The Troubadours are now 1-1-1 in league play.

Gregg, who now has 11 goals and six assists on the season, provided the assist on the opening goal by senior Savannah Watson. She now has two goals on the season.

St. Francis returns home to host Sheldon at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fans can catch the game online on TroubieTV.

Lacrosse Wins Bay Road Trip Finale at Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Senior Hayley Kusserow scored seven goals as St. Francis pulled out a 22-20 win over Palo Alto to close out their two-game Bay area road trip.

Kusserow was one of four players with multiple goals in the game. Kusserow, who has signed to play at St. Mary’s next season, tied a career-high with seven goals. She also notched seven goals against Redwood during her junior season. Colleen McClain had three goals and Erica Palmer and Emily Bush also contributed scored.

Softball Splits Pair at Victory Tournament, Wins Pool

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team split two games Friday at the Victory Tournament, finishing pool play with a 2-1 record. The Troubadours opened with a 5-3 loss to Vacaville before defeating Reno 13-2 in the second game.

St. Francis (4-2) will play the Pool B winner at Bartholomew Park at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Troubadours broke open a 4-1 game against Reno in the bottom of the fourth, scoring nine runs. Senior Danika Bailey scored four times, knocked in two runs. Rhyann O’Mara, Mel Baccay and Lauren Washburn each had two hits in the game.

Diving Sweeps Top Three Spots vs. Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis diving team went 1-2-3 to win its competition against Davis at Schaal Aquatic Center. Freshman Julia Coss led the team with a 224 score for her six dives. Junior Tiffany Wong (205) and senior Patty Sullivan (204) completed the event sweep.

Softball Wins Opener at Victory Tournament

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Emily Ainsley had a based loaded triple to highlight a 5-1 win for St. Francis over Douglas Thursday in a first-round game at the Victory Tournament.

Ainsley went 2-for-2 in the game with three RBI and a run scored. Senior Danika Bailey added two hits and juniors Akeylah Moses and Shelby Tevis each had two hits.

Junior Jada Kanemasu got the win, allowing one unearned run on five hits over 5.2 innings.

St. Francis plays two games Friday in pool play starting at 10:45 against Vacaville and versus Reno at 12:30 p.m.

Lacrosse Falls to Cal’s Second-Half Surge

MATHER, Calif. – Cal High scored 15 second-half goals to break open a close game and post a 19-11 win over St. Francis Tuesday night at Mather Sports Complex.

St. Francis (1-2) led 6-4 at the break behind three first-half goals by senior Hayley Kusserow. But the Grizzles rallied in the second half, scoring three quick goals to take a 7-6 lead.

Junior Meg Anderson scored the first of her four goals in the second half to briefly tie the game at 7. But Cal responded during a man advantage and quickly built its lead.

Softball Posts 16-1 Victory over Rio Linda

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Jada Kanemasu pitched three scoreless inning to lead the Troubadours to a 16-1 victory over Rio Linda Tuesday at Schuster Field on the St. Francis campus.

“It felt really good,” said Kanemasu, who allowed two hits and had two strikeouts over three innings. “I was not really nervous today because I had the girls behind me. It was pretty easy going.”

Track Athletes Win Three Events at Sac State Classic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three student-athletes won their events Saturday as part of an impressive season-opening performance by the St. Francis track and field program at the Sacramento State Track Classic.

Junior Ariane Arndt won the 800 meters in 2:22.32, senior Peyton Bilo won the 1600 meters in 5:06.03 and sophomore Elizabeth Hennessy crossed the line first in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.54.

Overall, the Troubadours posted 16 top-10 finishes at the meet.

Softball Posts First Win over Del Oro

LOOMIS, Calif. – Senior Danika Bailey went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead St. Francis to a 14-6 win over Del Oro Saturday.

The Troubadours scored nine runs over the first three innings and added a five-run fifth that included a two-run home run by Bailey to seal their first victory of the season. Bailey was one of four players with multiple-hit games, including a three-hit performance by Hannah Willover. Rhyann O’Mara had three RNI in the game.

Gregg, Barrett Lead Soccer to Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Anna Gregg scored twice to help St. Francis post a 3-1 victory over Rio Americano in their home opener Thursday.

“It felt so nice hearing the crowd support you,” said Gregg. “To play well and to win for them is unbelievable.”

St. Francis (6-0) and Rio Americano were deadlocked early.

“Our momentum was not really there in the first half,” said junior Hailey Barrett. “But we picked it up in the second half. The message at halftime was that we needed to pick up our intensity.”

Swimming Wins Season-Opening Dual Meet

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Katie McIntee won the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle and contributed on two winning relays as the St. Francis swimming team posted a 116-39 victory over Pleasant Grove in the first Delta League meet of the season.

“We were getting our squad that we will be competing with and see how they swim together,” said Head Coach Richard Levin.

McIntee opened with a win in the 200 free in 2:00.88 and came back to win the 100 free in 55.76. She also was part of the 200- and 400-free relay teams that finished first.

Lacrosse Defeats Foothill 8-7

PLEASONTON, Calif. – St. Francis senior Hayley Kusserow scored late to take an 8-7 victory over Foothill Tuesday night. Five Troubadours scored in the game, including two each by Meg Anderson, Colleen McClain and Kusserow. Maggie Anderson and Erika Palmer also scored for St. Francis (1-1).

The Troubadours trailed 4-3 at the break but fought back to tie the game at 7 before scoring the game-winner in the final minutes.

St. Francis hosts Cal next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Mather Sports Complex.

Cook, Gregg Lead Soccer to Win over Christian Brothers

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Meredith Cook scored a goal in the 16th minute and St. Francis never trailed in posting a 3-1 win over rival Christian Brothers Tuesday afternoon.

Cook scored on an assist by senior Anna Gregg to give the Troubadours the early lead. Gregg added two second half goals with the first giving St. Francis (5-0) a 2-0 lead. The Falcons would cut the deficit to 2-1 but Gregg would score again in the 76th minute to seal the victory.

Gregg now has five goals and four assists on the season in five games.

Softball Drops Opener to Ponderosa

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Ponderosa scored eight times over the final two innings to comeback to defeat St. Francis in its season opener 10-4 Tuesday night.

Four players had two hits each in the contest. Senior Danika Bailey went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while sophomore Rhyann O’Mara went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Kelsea Williams and junior Emily Ainsley each added two hits.

Sophomore Jada Kanemasu (0-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits over 6.2 innings.

Varsity Soccer Wins Cal Spring Classic Title

WOODLAND, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity soccer team won the Cal Spring Classic with a 5-0 win over Placer Saturday, winning the tournament title for the second consecutive season.

“The real focus was on the small improvements and evolutions,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “In game one we came from behind to win. We wanted to tighten up in a few areas and loosen up in a few areas to get us moving forward. The building intensity and team play all over the field is really what got us going.”

Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to San Ramon Valley

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Sarah Westover scored three goals but the St. Francis lacrosse team dropped its season opener 20-5 to San Ramon Valley Saturday at Mather Sports Complex.

“We have a lot of individual talent that is learning to work together to be successful this season,” said Head Coach Spenser Brown. “They are getting used to each other and they are on their way to syncing up.”

Westover scored twice and senior Colleen McClain scored as the Troubies fell behind 8-3.

Soccer Opens with Two Wins at Cal Spring Classic
Junior Rhys Wynbrandt Scores in Return to Field

WOODLAND, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team remained undefeated in the Cal Spring Classic with a 4-0 shutout win over Sierra late Friday night. The Troubies got goals from junior Bridget Foy, senior Addie Wallace, senior Savannah Watson and senior Lydia Molitor.

“It was a great showing,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “It was a little nerve-wracking in the first game. We got the little kinks out. They were honest early and yet we managed. I am really pleased. We had some great leadership on every layer on the field.”

St. Francis Falls to St. Mary’s

STOCKTON, Calif. – St. Mary’s of Stockton posted a 98-55 victory over St. Francis Thursday night in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

“We fought hard the whole game,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “They have more athleticism and great shooters. We wish them the best of luck.”

St. Mary’s, the No. 1 seed and No.4-ranked team in the nation according to ESPN, broke open a close game over the last 10 minutes of the first half. The Troubadours kept the game close early, tying the game three times with the last coming at 15 all six minutes into the game.
