As the school year winds down, several spring Troubies are doing their best to rewrite the school record books in their respective sports. Lacrosse midfielder, Zahra Smith, wrapped up her career in this week’s North Coast Section playoff battle with Marin Catholic, setting a program benchmark of 58 goals. Small wonder that she’s moving on to play collegiate ball at Delaware State next year. Senior pitcher, Hope Jenkins, struck out her 200th opponent this week against Franklin, making her the first player in the MaxPreps-recorded era of St. Francis to hit that milestone.

Furthermore, Maddie Pelfrey became the third track Troubie to set a school record, thanks to her league-winning 12-foot-6-inch mark in the pole vault at the Delta League Championships. She joins Cate Joaquin (1,600 and 3,200) and Tatiana Cornejo (mile) among those to set program benchmarks in 2022. Look for more as the league championships wrap up this Saturday at Sheldon.

Speaking of championships, the swimmers competed in the Sac-Joaquin Section trials yesterday, and the top advancers will have a go for section titles this Saturday. The meet takes place at Tokay High. Junior, Ava Chavez, who has taken part in six school records this season, is one among several Troubies looking to advance to the state meet later this month. They will join sophomore, Sinclair Yadao, who finished as the section runner-up last week and will now compete for a state title on Thursday.

Finally, this serves as one last reminder about softball’s regular-season home finale against Pleasant Grove on Tuesday. Not only will we honor the seniors, but this will be the site of the final Booster-Q of the year. Furthermore, Student Activities and Advancement are collaborating to assemble a boisterous crowd that will provide noise level readings for the aquatics center project. The louder, the better. To help foster such an atmosphere, there will be extra fun and games out on the field for SF students, in addition to the excitement of having two of the best varsity and JV softball teams in school history. Both games start at 4:00 p.m.
