Volleyball Deals Pleasant Grove 3-0 Loss

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team remained undefeated at home with a 3-0 victory over Pleasant Grove to improve to 2-0 in Delta League play.

“I am really proud of the kids starting off strong against Pleasant Grove,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “They are a good team, well coached and have a lot of weapons. We seemed to take them out of their game. We served pretty aggressive tonight and our defense played really well.”

The Troubadours opened the match with a 25-16 win in the first set and then took command of the match with a 25-18 win in the second. Pleasant Grove led in the third before SF rallied to close out the sweep with a 25-22 victory.

“They were not afraid to go up and swing against a big block,” said Wright. “They did it really well. I was really pleased with how aggressively we played. We still need to focus on the energy of the game and making better decisions. But the mistakes we made were good, aggressive mistakes.”

Junior Madie Bachelor recorded three kills with no errors and added three blocks and two digs in the contest, while sophomore Malia Berry contributed seven kills. Senior Aiyu Aimufua added seven kills with two blocks and sophomore Alexa Edwards led the team with 17 kills.

“It feels really good because they are a good team and we stepped up,” said Bachelor. “We did super good (with our offensive attack) and had really good hits especially by Alexa.”

Junior Sam Chavez had 11 digs and senior Aubrey Kenny added 19 in the winning effort.

“I think we really pushed through and executed really well,” said Chavez. “I feels nice (to get the win) and like we are going to have a good season.”

Chavez helped the win with nine points on her serve with a team-best three aces.

“First I pray before I serve the ball and say a quick “Glory Be…”. I just serve it and try to change the momentum and hype everyone up.”

St. Francis stays home to host Davis on Monday, Sept. 18.

“We have to start off the game strong,” said Chavez. “We have to push it all the way and prevent the runs.”
