Honors and AP courses

Post

SFHS Administration is looking at removing the cap currently in place for Honors/AP courses per year. We previously limited students to four (4) Honors/AP courses. We will assess the impact of removing this limit once students have submitted schedule requests and our master schedule has been built.

When selecting an Honors or AP-level course, students should be aware of the rigorous academic demands and time commitment required for each course including summer work. Students should check with their counselor and review their academic, athletic, and personal commitments so they do not overextend themselves. Students are encouraged to take a challenging course load but one which must be balanced against their co-curricular involvement. Typically, we recommend that students take no more than three (3) honors or AP courses per year.

Even if a student is eligible for and requests to take more than four honors/AP courses, it is very possible  the request might not be possible due to the limitations of the master schedule and course conflicts.
