Standing in line to register for classes at SFHS, I was anxious and unaware that soon I would meet the mentors who would inspire me to pursue my dream career. Theater and dance classes occupied my first semester’s introduction to the fine arts. Upon learning of my drumming hobby, my intuitive and attentive instructors introduced me to the music department. When I met Prof. Edens, Mrs. Harris, and Mr. Blanchard, I knew I’d found my home within my high school. That first semester, I luckily didn’t make the basketball try-outs, just in time for the school musical, “The Sound of Music.” Playing drum set and percussion in that musical was my first step towards considering a dream career. For the next four years, I played in every musical, concert, church service, or special event that the department asked of me. I felt that my abilities were encouraged and valued more than ever before.
