Brandy Bolden is the Chief Customer Officer at SMUD, charged with customer experience delivery across our residential and commercial customer segments. Brandy provides leadership and oversight of customer operations including customer care and revenue management, business intelligence, strategic account management, customer experience and segmentation strategy, channel management, and special assistance initiatives. She owns commercial development, business attraction and retention and oversees Community Energy Services, which supports community choice aggregators.
Brandy has spent more than 25 years as a leader in both the public and private sectors. Since joining SMUD in 2003, she’s led several enterprise-wide initiatives including the deployment of smart meters, implementation of time-of-day rates and customer-facing technologies which have improved overall customer experience. Under Brandy’s leadership, SMUD successfully implemented key customer and community initiatives including the Community Impact Plan which ensures no community is left behind in the transition to a zero-carbon clean energy future.
While she’s led large teams and organizations throughout most of her career, Brandy has a soft spot for small business owners. She was born into a family of entrepreneurs and considers small business the backbone of communities. Once a dedicated runner, Brandy still makes fitness a priority as well as mentoring and service on several nonprofit boards.
Brandy has been recognized by the Sacramento Business Journal as one of 2021’s “Women Who Mean Business” and honored in 2019 by the Sac Cultural Hub as an “Exceptional Women of Color” for excellence in management and the professions. Most recently, she received the “Women Who Spark” award by Utility 2030 and was recognized as a “Change Maker” by the Sacramento Bee.
She’s an active member of the Sacramento Chapter of the Links, Inc., an international organization of African American professional women committed to serving and strengthening their communities through volunteer work focused on support for our youth, the arts and health and human services.
Brandy is a senior Fellow of the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program, the American Leadership Forum (ALF) and Leadership California. She currently serves on the boards of WEAVE, Greater Sacramento Urban League, and ALF – Mountain Valley Chapter. She is married and mom to two adult children.
