SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team sent their 34 seniors out right with a 171-29 victory over Monterey Trail on Wednesday in the final regular season meet at Jesuit High School. Athletic Director Mark McGreevy greeted the seniors before the meet with their proud parents and families in a ceremony to recognize their dedication to the program over the last four seasons.

“When you get to graduation season it is always bittersweet,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “Over four years you become like a family and you get to know everybody. They leave and it is sad to say good bye but there is another class to take their spot. This class has been with me since they were freshman and has come a long way as a group. They are awesome teammates.”

Overall, thirty-one seniors participated in the ceremony including pre-meet group pictures and formal introductions. The Troubies completed the regular season with a 6-1 dual meet record.

“It is always a great time with a great group of people, said senior Marisa Fat. “It means more friends to hang out at the swim meet to cheer on. It feels like a community and it is a great way to end our last season at St. Francis.”

Sophomore Emma Hollenbach won the 100 breaststroke and contributed on the winning 200y Medley and 400y free relays.

“I felt pretty dead,” said Hollenabach. “We have been training a lot in the pool. I pushed through it. I tried to sprint to the finish.”

Sophomore Emma Peters won the 100 freestyle in 58.16, touching the wall three seconds faster than any swimming in the race. She also aided the 200-yard medley relay win the opening race.

“At the beginning of the season I was coming off an injury and it took me a really long time to get back into it, so I was really happy with both my races and my times are about where they need to be,” said Peters.

Other event winners for the Troubadours included sophomore Jaclynn Burgess in the 200 individual medley (2:23.19), freshman Ana Poarch-Twinning in the 50 freestyle (26.69), freshman Maria Corvacho Marrugo in the 100 butterfly (1:05.22) and the two freestyle relays.

“Again our youth movement and the freshman and sophomore classes are deep,” said Levin. “They are going to make a strong showing at sections as they go to repeat as section champions.”

The team will next be in action at the Delta League meet Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27. The site of the meet has moved to American River College. Admission is $5 for students and $8 for adults. Parking is $2. Warmups are from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. with prelimaries and relay finals beginning at 2:15 p.m.

“We want to get as many people to go as possible to cheer,” said Hollenbach.

Levin says Davis is the favorite heading into the meet.

“I think Davis is our big competition and they are the defending section champions,” said Levin. “They are going to be tough to swim against. We are going to give our best shot and hopefully we are in contention.”

Results will be available on Meet Mobile.

“I am really excited and I think the team is too because have an exciting freshman class,” said Peters. “We are really hyped up for this.”
