HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Seniors Abbey Berg (Sacramento), Reagan Garcia (Carmichael) and Emalee Lavezzo (Sacramento) joined juniors Alyssa Jacobsen (Sacramento) and Caroline Wilkins (Carmichael) on the USA Water Polo Academic All-America team announced last week. All five represent American River Water Polo Club.

“It shows the balance of St. Francis athletes,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “The student-athletes at St. Francis take both areas of what they doing and are able to manage everything at a high level. School is important and it is vital they stay focused academically. We talk about managing their time so they can do everything they want to do.”

Garcia, Jacobsen and Wilkins earned Outstanding Academic All-American status for receiving a 4.00 GPA or higher while competing in a National USA Water Polo event. It was the second honor for Berg, Garcia and Lavezzo, who were also named to the 2016-17 team.

“It means a lot because I put a lot of hard work and effort into everything,” said Wilkins. “I stay up late every night to make sure I have everything done in and out of the pool. It shows how hard I have been working and getting the reward for the hard work is important.”

Overall, 17 Troubadours have earned Academic All-America status 28 times under Moody since her arrival.

The water polo team returns to the pool on Thursday against Rio Americano.
