SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Krysta Alvarez had a game- and season-high 19 points to lead St. Francis to a 50-46 win over Del Oro to capture the Robby Nakamura Holiday Classic at Kennedy High School.

“It feels very good especially with a new team and our chemistry is definitely growing,” said Alvarez, who notched double digits for the first time this season. “It is nice to win and know we can work together well.”

Del Oro trailed the entire game but made a late push to pull within four points. Alvarez calmly drilled a three-pointer on the next possession to seal the game.

“I knew my teammates were setting me up for that shot,” said Alvarez. “I knew I had to make it and then I didn’t want to celebrate too much. I had to get back on defense. It felt good because I knew we could win.”

The Troubadours are now 7-0 on the season after defeating Oak Ridge and Burbank in the tournament.

“Each game we played our basketball,” said Alvarez.

The Troubies had won their first six games by an average of 44.1 points per contest.

“‘We finally got tested and had a big test in Del Oro,” said Head Coach Gary Ender. “After we got in foul trouble, I learned that we can play pretty good half-court defense.”

Ender credited the balanced scoring on the roster with 10 players averaging at least four points per game.

“We can have anybody get hot any game,” said Ender. “We have had a different leading scorer every game.”

Alvarez hit four three-pointers in the game and scored in all four quarters to total 19 points, more than her three previous games combined. She scored a career-high 25 points against Davis last season.

“When Krysta gets going in her range and with confidence, it looks good coming out of her hand,” said Ender. “The shots were falling for her. It was her day and I am very proud of her.”

JV returns to action on Dec. 21 against Sacramento High before playing in Antioch after the break.
