JV Water Polo Loses Heartbreaker at Woodcreek
ROSEVILLE, Calif. –The St. Francis junior varsity water polo team came back from a three-goal deficit to tie the game twice in the second half before Woodcreek scored twice in the final minute to get an 8-7 victory on Wednesday at the Roseville Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Sage Davis had three goals and three assists, while Karissa Peterson and Ava Caron each added two goals for the Troubies.
St. Francis took a 2-0 lead as Peterson scored at the 3:31 mark of the first and Davis followed 40 seconds later for the early advantage. The Timberwolves scored five unanswered, including two in the first and three in the second periods, to take a 5-2 lead at the half.
St. Francis responded with three unanswered in the third to tie the game at 5. Davis had two in the period and Peterson added her second.
Woodcreek took a 6-5 lead before Caron scored on an assist by Davis with 3:35 left. The Troubies went back up 7-6 when Peterson scored with 2:25 on the clock. SF had two chances to extend the lead but failed to score, including a tough shot off the cross bar. The Timberwolves tied the game at 7 with 46 seconds left and then got the winner with nine seconds left.
St. Francis returns to the pool on Thursday against Rio Americano at Jesuit High School at 5:30 p.m.
