EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Junior Jade Borg and freshman Maggie Price each had two goals but St. Francis lost in the semifinals of the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League playoffs 12-6 to top seed Oak Ridge on Tuesday night.

“I coached a team that believed they could win the game,” said Head Coach Julia Southard. “They were an inspired group led by our seniors. It was a fun game to watch and be part of. Our kids truly feel they can compete with any team in our league.”

St. Francis finished the regular season 11-4 with a 5-3 league mark. Oak Ridge won the regular season title with 16-1 mark and 8-0 record in league play.

St. Francis, who lost to the Trojans in the regular season 14-3, battled the league champs and trailed only 6-4 in the second half before Oak Ridge pulled away.

“We really battled it out but it got away from us at the end,” said Borg.

Senior Maggie Pinkston and Kate McIntyre combined for eight saves to keep St. Francis in the game.

“The best and worst thing is the mistakes were our own,” said Southard. “When we get a little more mature, those will start going our way and we will start winning these games.”

St. Francis will await a potential North Coast Section playoff berth announced this weekend.

“We did a lot better than they thought we were going to do,” said Price. “We really showed them who we were and we played together as a team. I am so proud to be on this team. We put in the work and showed them we are a team we can beat them.”

The 11 regular season wins are the most for the program since the 2013 season.

“We definitely have progressed as a team, said Borg. “We put it all out on the field tonight. It was a game that was tough. We definitely wanted it. It was closer because we all worked together.”
