Reminders from the Dean’s Office

News

We want to provide you with the following information and a quick recap synopsis that will help you and your daughter start the new school year in the best manner possible. It is important to understand that the following information is generally provided based on safety protocols and will be strictly enforced. As always feel free to contact Dean Cost if you have any questions.

Parent & Student Handbook: As a trusted high school student your daughter is responsible for reading, understanding and adhering to the rules.

Put your daughters name on EVERYTHING: Especially water bottles (etch her name into the bottom), blazers, jackets, books or any item of value. Anything left in the lost and found without names for more than two weeks will be donated to local charities.

Uniform: Take a moment to make sure that your daughters uniforms are correct, in good repair and fit well. This also means that your daughters skirts are no shorter than fingertip length. Hair should be of natural colors (i.e.no pink, green, blue, or other unnatural colors….etc…)

SFHS is a closed campus during the school day. Once on campus, your daughter may not leave campus without an early dismissal pass (EDP) or a pre-phone call by parents to the attendance line.

  • It is mandatory that anytime the EDP is not in use, that all students sign in and off campus in the front office.
  • Parents may not excuse a student who has already left campus or give permission for the student not to sign in or out.

Early Dismissal pass (EDP): Applications to be signed by parents for a pass are available online on the website. Students will be issued their EDP sticker the first week of school.

Traffic/Parking: All students who are dropped off and picked up by parents follow the pre-designated maps.

  • Remember that traffic really backs up all along Elvas from 7:30 to 8:00am, so leave yourself plenty of time to get to campus. *There will be extra traffic back ups due to highway 50 traffic repairs, give yourself extra time*
  • Pick up during the first two weeks of school is very crowded and can take as much as 20-30 extra minutes as everyone tries to be picked up at the exact same time. If your daughter doesn’t need to be picked up right at 3:00pm, waiting even 15 to 20 minutes will ease congestion and make all the traffic flow smoother.
  • We promise it will get better as students and their families navigate through the traffic system.

Standard parking passes:  All vehicles must have a parking pass to park on campus. All students parking on campus, even those with a painted space must display a parking pass on their dashboard/rearview mirror at all times. Passes will be handed out during the first week of school or from the front office after the first week.

  • EV Parking is for everyone with a maximum time of 2 hours per vehicle.
  • You may purchase a standard parking pass at any time from the website.
  • The senior painted parking spots are only for those seniors who have purchased those spots.
  • All other parking on campus is first come, first serve.

M Street and surrounding neighborhood streets are off limits and are not for drop-off or pick-up (except directly next to St. Mary’s for those with siblings there). The M Street driving gates will be locked for driving into or off of campus; all drivers must enter and exit through cell phone lots (see the above noted traffic pattern).

  • Walking/Biking students may only enter and exit through the M Street pedestrian gate by the portables. Bikes should be locked and stored on campus at one of the various bike rack sites. The pedestrian gates close at the start of school each day and will be reopened at the end of the day. Students coming after the start of the day will have to walk/bike around on the Elvas sidewalk to the main office entrance.

Mandatory campus events: such as rallies, assemblies, masses, prayer services etc. are part of the unique experience of St. Francis and have mandatory attendance for all students at all times. Failure to attend mandatory events on campus more than once or without a doctor’s note will initiate loss of privileges or progressive discipline.

Chromebook and chargers: It is important to double check that your daughters’ Chromebooks are working and that they have their charger. Only school issued chromebooks may be used on campus.

Medications: Your daughter may carry one dose (up to 4 pills of aspirin, tylenol, midol type products). All other medication except EPI pens, inhalers, or diabetic meds should be stored in the main office. Please see Ms. Hamilton or Ms. Parrow in the front office for forms and further information.

Picture Day: All students must wear a red polo shirt for their photos.

  • ALL students are required to get their ID picture taken, even seniors.
  • Students will receive their ID card during the first week of school, not when their picture is taken.
  • August 8: Sophomores (9:00-10:00am)
  • August 8: Juniors (10:00-11:00am)
  • August 8: Seniors (11:00am-12:00pm) All must have an ID card picture taken (separate from senior portrait).
  • August 9: Freshmen (8:00am-noon during Freshman Orientation)Picture make-up day will be in September and only applicable for students who were not on campus for the original picture day. No make-ups for any reason, no retakes because you don’t like your picture).

Support Personnel: All of our faculty and staff are here to help you at all times. All contact information can be found on our Faculty/Staff Directory.
