SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Molly Wilson won her third straight Sac-Joaquin Section diving title on Friday with an 11-dive total of 415.60 and will advance to the CIF State Diving Championships.

“We are thrilled for Molly because she has worked hard for it,” said Head Coach Dede Crayne. “Three times in a row is pretty big. She kept calm and her last two dives were the best she has ever performed them.”

Wilson won the title with strong scores on the final two dives including a front summersault with two twists and a front one-and-half with a full twist.

“We were really debating on her 11th dive and we decided to do the last dive just two days ago,” said Crayne. “It worked out.”

Wilson edged Melia Stout of Granite Bay (436.25) and Madison Liu of Lodi (415.85).

Wilson is the second Troubadour in school history to win three consecutive section titles, joining Reagan Reber (2001-03). Overall, four Troubies have won the section title a combined 10 times including Andriana Littlefield (1984), Ashley Haney (2004) and Amy Crayne (2010, 2012), who was an assistant coach for the team this season.

Wilson is the third diver in section history to win three consecutive titles including Reber and Mikaela Ruber of Nevada Union (2013-15).

The competition featured combined participants from the North and South for the first time this year. The field was cut after the third, fifth and eighth dives with the top 16 finishing all 11 dives.

The St. Francis varsity was also represented by junior Callista Stanley (24th, 111.75), junior Claudia Campos (51.25) and junior Arissa Vellajo (48.60).

In the Frosh/Soph competition on Friday morning, sophomore Maddy Miles placed second with a score of 340.00 and freshman Sydney Smith was seventh with 271.15. Freshman Sammie Calagna was 16th with a score of 239.40 and sophomore Maddie Covert finished 25th with a 107.25.

Wilson, who scored 20 points for the Troubadours in next week’s swimming and diving championships, will now compete in the CIF State Diving Championships at the Clovis West Aquatics Complex on May 18.

Wilson was named one of the school’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year on Thursday. She will compete for Cal Poly next year. 2016 Molly Wilson (St. Francis) 430.60
