Softball Season Ends with Second Round Playoff Loss
VACAVILLE, Calif. – No. 12 Vacaville pounded out 18 hits and two home runs to defeat No. 13 St. Francis 13-3 in a second-round Sac-Joaquin Section playoff game on Thursday.
Vacaville scored two runs in the first and four in the second to take an early control of the game. St. Francis (14-14) left the bases loaded in the third and only plated one run in the fourth as the inning ended with three runners on board.
“We had a couple hard hit balls and the whole left side of their infield really did a nice job, said Head Coach Kevin Warren.
Perkins advanced the run home with second of two at-bats that ended in a hit by pith.
The Bulldogs added single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to extend the lead to 8-1.
SF rallied for two in the sixth with Rhyann O’Mara knocking in two runs with a single, finishing the day 3-for-4.
“We have been working all season on talking and being a loud team,” said O’Mara. “We were down by seven runs and were still up and cheering. I could not be more proud of everyone. This team is a family and I love it.’
Vacaville closed out the game in the bottom of the inning when Alyse Rojas hit a grand slam, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs scored and 4 RBI.
Warren coached his four seniors for the final time – Ari Avila, Jada Kanemasu, O’Mara and Lauren Washburn.
“It is always tough (saying goodbye) and the four seniors we have meant a lot to me,” said Warren. “They are good athletes and hard-working and they mean the world to me. It is tough seeing them go.”
St. Francis upset Del Oro in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday.
