Support as the Quarter Ends
As the third quarter wraps up on March 14, some students may feel the weight of their responsibilities and become overwhelmed. This busy period is filled with academic deadlines, extracurricular activities, and academic team or athletic commitments, making time management challenging. During this time, parents may also find themselves unsure of how best to support their students. Here are some helpful tips for both students and parents:
Students should take full advantage of meeting with their teacher during office hours or lunchtime. This is a great opportunity for students to ask questions, work on assignments, and receive guidance. It’s important for students to reach out to their teachers directly if they are having trouble or have questions about their performance. Parents can track grades through Schoology, but if you have additional questions about your student’s progress or courses, don’t hesitate to contact the teacher for clarification.
Establishing good habits is key. Encourage your student to regularly check Google Classroom for updates, assignments, and to review the “missing” tab for any overdue work. For students who may need extra help with planning, staying on top of assignments, or understanding instructions more clearly, consider setting aside time to review Google Classroom together as a family.
If your student would benefit from peer tutoring, there are two options. The CSF Peer Tutor list for spring semester was shared with students; they can access the list through Schoology and find a peer who is available during a free block, lunchtime, or before and after school. Also, the peer tutoring team is always available in the library for tutoring. Tutors are available A, B, C, D, F and G blocks. Students can make an appointment here.
Finally, it’s crucial for students to feel empowered to advocate for themselves. Students should ask for help when needed. Counselors are also available to assist with navigating these conversations and can provide ongoing support.
