Swimming & Diving Finishes Second at League Meet
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team finished second overall to Davis at the 2018 Della League Championships. The Blue Devils out-scored the Troubies 615-504 at American River College. Overall, the team placed 18 swimmers in ‘A’ Finals and recorded eight top-three finishes in the meet including relays.
Sophomore Emma Peters opened with personal-best 1:55.52 to finish second in the 200y freestyle with three SF swimmers touching in the top six, including sophomore Chloe Beebouot (1:59.91, 4th), sophomore Laura Freeworth (2:03.48, 5th) and sophomore Caroline Wilkins (2:05.15, 6th). Peters also placed second in the 100y freestyle in 53.65 and helped both the 400 free (Houck, Beebout, Parulan) and 200y free (Hannah Parulan, Emma Hollenbach and Freeworth) to second and third-place finishes, respectively.
Sophomores Emma Hollenabach and Kendall Houck both scored big points with second-place finishes in the 100y breaststroke and 100y backstroke. Hollenbach posted a time of 1:08.65 in the breaststroke and Houck touched in 1:00.72 in back specialty.
Junior Hannah Parulan was third in the 100y butterfly in 1:01.34 and fourth in the 200y individual medley (2:15.11) to lead the Troubies in those events, while senior Audrey Camarillo was the fastest sprinter on the team with a 26.26 in the 50 freestyle for fourth-place. Beebout led four swimmers in the grueling 500 freestyle in a time of 5:21.98.
St. Francis took the diving event behind the win by Molly Wilson and placing five of the top six divers.
In the Junior Varsity meet, St. Francis won seven overall events including all three relays to post a 10-point victory over Davis. Ana Poarch-Twinning won two individual events (200 free, 50 free) and aided the 200 IM relay and 400-free relay to wins.
Sophomore Emma Daniels won the 100y freestyle and sophomore Megan Seifert took the 100y breaststroke by over two seconds.
St. Francis will compete at the Sac-Joaquin Section Swimming Trials on May 10 at Tokay High School. The Troubies are the defending Frosh/Soph Team champions.
