Thirteen Seniors Make College Commitments
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Thirteen St. Francis Troubadours participated in the National Letter-of-Intent and College Commitment Celebration at St. Francis on Wednesday.
Senior Ariane Arndt, who will attend UC-Berkeley out of the Pac-12 Conference, headlined a class representing seven sports committing to 12 different schools, including five out-of-state school. The schools for the Troubie signees include Brown, Cal, Cal-State Northridge, Colorado State, Fordham, Loyola Marymount, Michigan State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, UCLA, UC San Diego and Yale.
Arndt advanced to the state meet in the 800 meters for the second consecutive season in 2015, finishing 16th overall. She helped the team win the Sac-Joaquin Section title for the second consecutive season and the Troubadours were the co-champions in the final Delta League standings. Arndt also broke two school records last season. She won the Arcadia Invitational title with an 800 meter school-record time of 2:10.05, a mark that ranked among the best in the nation. She also broke the school 400 meter mark in winning the section meet (55.35).
Arndt is one of three track and field student-athletes, joining Lilly Enes and Nicole Spring. Both will attend Ivy League schools with Enes running for Yale and Spring jumping for Brown.
The water polo program is represented by three student-athletes, including Jenna Barthels (Cal-State Northridge), Maggie Oys (Santa Clara) and Julie Zanobini (Loyola Marymount). They have combined for more than 300 career goals and played in each of the last four section championship games. They will lead the Troubadours on Saturday against Davis.
While crew is not a competitive sport at the high school level, two St. Francis students will compete in college. Julianna Qvistgaard (Cal) and Caroline Coyle (UCLA) are both coxswains for their respective clubs.
The St. Francis swimming program also boasts two signees in Chloe Mitchell (Fordham) and Katie McIntee (San Jose State).
Mel Baccay (Softball, Michigan State), Tia Hay (Basketball, Colorado State) and Tiffany Wong (Diving, UC San Diego) also made commitments.
