Three Volleyball Seniors Named to Optimist Game at St. Francis
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three St. Francis seniors will play against some of the Sac-Joaquin Sections top seniors at the Sacramento Optimist Volleyball Large School Game on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at St. Francis High School. The small schools match will take place at 5 p.m.
“I am really honored and super excited,” said senior Mady Schildmeyer. “I have dreamed about playing in this game. I have known a lot of girls who have played in the past. It is a huge honor and I could not be more excited to play.”
Schildmeyer will join St. Francis seniors Aiyu Aimufua and Aubrey Kenny in suiting up for the South team coached by Cosumnes Oaks coach Lisa Fowkes.
“It was an honor to be chosen to represent St. Francis,” said Kenny. “I am really excited to play one last time with Mady and Aiyu.”
The games will hosted at St. Francis with a $10 admission for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. Discounted tickets are available for junior players wearing your high school or club volleyball gear.
“It is exciting to be able to play one last time at St. Francis,” said Kenny.
The three Troubadours will join a roster with players from Elk Grove, Laguna Creek, McClatchy, Oak Ridge, Pleasant Grove, St. Mary’s and Vista del Lago.
“I thought my last home game was done,” said Schildmeyer about the Section championship gamer at SF. “Now I get to finish off my high school volleyball career.”
Schildmeyer led the league with a 1,092 assists, the 10th-best total in the state, and 9.8 assists per set to rank among the state’s top 25. Kenny was second in the league behind Edwards in digs with 290. Aimufua recorded 149 kills during the season to rank eighth in the league. It was her second all-league honor while it was the first for Schildmeyer and Kenny.
The Troubadours advanced to the CIF Northern California Regional Open Division playoffs and finished second in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I bracket. They won the Delta League with a perfect 14-0 record and finished with a 33-9 overall record.
