Track and Field Celebrates Seniors at Final League Meet
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team celebrated their 15 seniors Wednesday before the final regular season home meet against Franklin and Pleasant Grove. The student-athletes and their families took the field before the meet to be recognized for their tie and dedication to the program.
In the meet, junior Chanel Grimes posted personal bests in both the 100 and 200 meters to win both events. Freshman Hanna Hekkanen won the 1600 meters, while senior Sydney Vandegrift took the 3200. The Troubies also won both hurdle events with freshman Reyna Johnson taking the 100m hurdles in 15:56 and senior Yahsmeene winning the 300m in a personal-best 47.38.
In the field events, thrower Sarah Healey threw a personal-best 80-0 to place fifth in the discus and was fourth in the shot put with a best of 28-3.5. Sophomore Meghan Ladd took the pole vault (11-6), while jumpers Isabelle Grassel (long jump, 17-1) and Isabelle Rudis (triple jump, 34-3).
The senior class includes four student-athletes continuing their career in college, including Erica Cradeur (Creighton), Alana Reyna (Sonoma State), Isabelle Rudis (Chapman) and Sydney Vandegridt (UC-Berkeley).
