SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team defeated St. Mary’s 18-4 as 10 players scored in the contest.

“I felt like today we made the adjustment of playing more team defense and playing more together than the weekend,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “Everyone is getting together defensively. We were attacking and doing a good job. I am happy with the result.”

Three players tallied multiple goals led by sophomore Libby Slater, who tallied four goals in the game.

“Libby coming into her sophomore year is really focused on what she is working on and being driven on covering offensively the center position,” said Moody. “She is really focused and determined on getting better.”

Senior Malia Arnott added three goals, two assists and two steals, while sophomore Zoe Sloat and senior Reagan Garcia each added two goals.

St. Francis jumped out to a 9-0 lead before allowing the first goal by the Rams (0-4), building a 11-1 lead at the half behind the defensive play and performance by goalie Kate Watley. SF out-scored St. Mary’s in the third 5-2 and added two more goals in the final period.

St. Francis (2-3) returns to the pool against rival Rio Americano on Thursday, Sept. 20. It will be shown online on TroubieTV.
