Pen & Ink With Touch Of Mixed Media
In fine arts, the term “pen and ink” denotes a drawing technique that involves the use of black or colored ink that is applied to a surface (generally paper) with either a dip pen or a micron pen.
Pen and ink drawing, being one of the more challenging aspects of drawing in general, is scheduled close to the end of the semester in Art 1 class. It’s a skill that employs techniques that require more patience and focus than some other types of drawing. Pen and ink drawing offers opportunities to explore line thickness, shading, and contours.
Adding a touch of mixed media to pen and ink opens a door to unique artistic possibilities. Students are sometimes hesitant to try pen and ink drawing, because the ink can’t be erased. However, the permanence of a finished ink drawing offers a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. Mastering the pen and ink drawing is a skill that enhances the students’ ability to express themselves artistically.
