Section Finals: Varsity 6th; Frosh/Soph Win Title & Set Record

Varsity Swimming took 6th place in the Sac-Joaquin Section Finals with great relay swims in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. The medley relay (Margot Wolfersberger, Brenda O’Conner, Mikala Shuping, Allie Stewart) had a very exciting race that was decided by less than a second for first in consols. The 400 free relay (Ashley Flynn, Brianne Reilly, Helen Zielger, Shelby Schaefer) swam a great final for 5th place. Varsity also had final swims by Ashley Flynn, Shelby Schaefer and Helen Ziegler.

Frosh/Soph Swimming won the Sac-Joaquin Section title led by three first place finishes in the relays. The 200 medley relay (Sydney Johansen, Anna Shortley, Emily Kane, Carissa Metcalf ) set a new Section record of 1:52.60 beating the old record held by Loretto by .35. Antoinette Ranit was a double individual winner in the 50 and 100 free as well as participating in the 200 and 400 free relays for wins. Sydney Johansen took first place in the 100 backstroke.

The Frosh/Soph relay teams consisted of Antoinette Ranit, Erin Sheehan, Katie Vargas and Emily Kane in the 200 free relay and Antoinette Ranit, Erin Sheehan, Carissa Metcalf and Sydney Johansen in the 400 free relay. We also had final swims by Nicole Bellini, Sydney Johansen, Emily Kane, Emily McNamara, Keira Nocetti, Erin Sheehan and Anna Shortley.

Many of our girls had great swims at the Section Trials and just missed participating in the finals. Congratulations to our 2008 Varsity and Frosh/Soph Swim Teams!
