SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis was out-scored 22-9 in the fourth quarter and missed their last nine free throws as Christian Brothers posted a 52-47 victory in the annual Holy Hoops game between the rivals Saturday in front of a sold out crowd.

“We had a lot of unforced turnovers, some forced and poor handling of the ball,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We had plenty of opportunities. We failed to capitalize.”

Senior Lauren Craig led the team with 14 points, scoring 12 in the second half. Kyra Huffman added 10 points and Janae Fairbrook and Julia Razo each added seven points.

“She has been producing for us all season long,” said Pitton about Craig. “She struggled in the first half but she responded in the second. We just needed a little more from everybody.”

Craig and her teammates were playing for the second consecutive night after beating Davis Friday at Sleep Train Arena. She scored 20 Friday.

“It was hard because we were not making good passes or decisions,” said Craig. “We really needed to pick up on defense so it was really disappointing. We just needed to push through and we fell short tonight.”

St. Francis led 38-30 going into the fourth quarter but got on a bad streak at the line, finishing the night 13 for 32 from the charity stripe.

“I am excited to play at home because we have the home court advantage,” said Craig. “I think we will all come together and play really well.”

St. Francis hosts three games at home this week starting with Elk Grove on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
