ANTELOPE, Calif. – Junior Kyra Huffman scored a career-high 22 points to lead St. Francis to a 75-38 victory in the opening game of the 27th Claude Brock Memorial hosted by Center High School.

St. Francis (5-0) led  by double digits after the first quarter behind six points by junior Julia Razo, who was one of three players in double figures for the game with 10 points. The Troubadours led 37-25 at the break but finally pulled away behind Huffman in the second half.

“In the beginning, I was kinda slow and off pace,” said Huffman, who will celebrate her birthday tomorrow. “I tried to pick it up and energize my team to give us a spark.”

Huffman scored all 10 St. Francis points in the third quarter as they extended the lead to 47-33.

“She was able to find the openings under the backside of the zone,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “She crashed the offensive boards real well and her teammates found her with a lot of nice passes to set her up.”

Huffman added six more points on three baskets in the fourth quarter as part of a 27-point period.

“After we stropped fouling, our defensive pressure really set the tone,” said Pitton. “We able to get our energy up and we shared the ball really well.”

Junior Lauren Craig scored 11 points, while senior Susie Rogers and junior Angie Ortiz each added seven points in the win.

“We trying to put our best foot forward and do the best we can win or lose,” said Huffman. “

St. Francis plays the winner of host Center and Mira Loma on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first semifinal. The Championship and loser’s brackets game will continue on Monday.
