ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Erin Crooks posted two top-five finishes and swam on a pair of relays to help St. Francis to a second-place finish at the 2015 NorCal Swimming Championships held at the Roseville Aquatic Center. St. Francis finished with 312 points to place behind only Granite Bay as the Troubadours recorded 23 top-16 performances, including 12 in the top eight.

“At a Nor Cal Championship with powerhouses like Granite Bay and Rio Americano here, it is a great accomplishment for our team,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “We had great individual performances and beyond that a great team performance.”

It is the highest finish for the Troubadours in the event after placing third in 2014 with seven “A” finals finishes.

All three relays recorded top-three finishes in the meet highlighted by a second-place finish by the 200 free relay of Katie McIntee, Elizabeth Fugit, Samantha Gates and Emily Peters.

“Our 200 medley relay started off strong, the 200 free relay was fast and the 400 free relay moved up three spots to take third overall,” said Levin. “Roepke led off, Fugit and Peters came on strong and Mitchell finished and is the team leader.”

Senior Erin Crooks touched third in the 100-Yard butterfly in 59.01 and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.25 while adding strong relay performances.

“Erin Crooks without a doubt was the swimmer of the meet,” said Levin. “Two weeks ago she was in Florida at Junior Nationals and she came here and went lifetime personal bests in all of her events the butterfly and breast and then went a personal-best in the 100 free on the relay. She is the senior leader, leading our cheer and contributing to the overall Troubie Spirit.”

Crook, who Crooks will swim at Division III Trinity University in San Antonio, was happy with her performance in the meet.

“It was really good,” said Crooks. “I was not expecting to do as well as I did. My 50 split in the 200 free relay was my best and guaranteed me a spot on the A relay. I am really happy about that. In my 100 fly and breaststroke, I went two seconds faster than yesterday (prelims). I was right on my times coming off hard practices and training hard.”

After originally considering Lafayette, she is excited about her college choice.

“I am going to be able to swim at a competitive level but it won’t take over my life,” said Crooks. “My academics come first and it will give me other opportunities in college. It is what I wanted and I am really excited.”

Mitchell was fourth in the 200 free (1:57.8) and third in the 500 free (5:14.23). Peters was the top finisher for SF in the 500 free in 25.33 for fourth overall and sixth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.92). Katie McIntee placed ninth in the 100 free in 56.54

“We have a couple more small dual meets leading into our leagues with our first year competing against Davis,” said Levin. “It will be a huge challenge for us which I think we are ready for. We are really stepping up and developing as a group.”

St. Francis scored in 10 of the 11 events led by the 12 finals appearances.

“We have done so well and it is great to see how well we have done here at NorCal not tapered,” said Crooks. “We have done so well in finals. It is great for league and sections coming up. I think we are going to do really well.”
