JV Hoops Falls to Sacramento in Tourney Final
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity basketball team placed second in the Battle on the Bridge Tournament on Saturday, dropping a 66-51 decision to Sacramento in the championship game.
“I think we did great,” said Ally Gage. “We passed the ball and played like a team.”
Nika Bagatelus led the team with 13 points in the loss, while Nicole Frank scored nine points for the Troubadours.
St. Francis (2-1) had two players earn all-tournament honors, including freshmen Jorie Keitges and Ally Gage.
The Troubadours trailed most of the game but never gave up, rallying in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit nine points late.
“We knew we had a chance and we got all of our nervous butterflies out,” said Keitges. “We really focused (down the stretch). Our bench really pumped us up to give us the fire.”
St. Francis opened the tournament with a 51-39 victory over Rocklin as Keitges had a team-high 11 points and Gage added eight. They defeated Vanden 82-45 to reach the championship. Maggie Malaney and Isabella Quiniola each scored 13 points in the victory.
“It gives us a great start to our season,” said Gage.
Lauren Pank, Adrienne Graybill and Megan Austin each five points.
The JV team will play host to Kennedy on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
