SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Kyra Huffman scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead St. Francis to a 48-44 victory over Folsom Thursday night.

“Kyra was a monster on the boards and she made some great hustle plays getting back and forcing deflections on defense,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “It was much needed. She stepped in filled in admirably.”

Huffman, who got the start for injured senior Abby Dow, posted a big double-double to lead the winning effort.

“Abby brings a lot of energy for the team so I just wanted to go out there at match it tonight,” said Huffman.

Susie Rogers added nine points and Lauren Craig and Raven Robinson each contributed seven points.

St. Francis jumped out with a 19-point first quarter to take a seven-point lead after eight minutes. The Troubies then went on a 5-0 spurt to open the second, extending the lead to double digits at 24-12 before taking an eight-point lead at the half

Folsom responded in the third, tying the game at 38. But Huffman scored eight of her 11 points in the second half to keep the Troubies in the lead.

“We played as a team tonight and a lot of unselfish basketball with a lot of assists,” said Huffman.

Down the stretch, sophomore Lauren Craig hit four consecutive free throws to help hold off the Bulldogs.

“Our defense really picked up in the fourth quarter and held them to six points,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “That was the difference.”

Folsom is now 14-8, 2-3 in league play. The Bulldogs were led by 11 points by Danielle DeCosta.

St. Francis (13-8, 3-2 DRL) travels to Ponderosa Tuesday night. All three levels in action starting at 4 p.m.
