GRANITE BAY, Calif. – The St. Francis lacrosse team fell to Granite Bay for the third time this season, eliminating the Troubadours from the first round of the North Coast Section playoffs. The Grizzlies posted a 20-8 victory over St. Francis, advancing to the second round.

“We started off pretty strongly,” said Head Coach Kristi Wilson. “When we got the ball on our attack, we did a great job of spacing it out and our shooting percentage was strong.”

St. Francis trailed 4-3 early but the Grizzlies scored three straight to extend their lead to four. The Troubadours were led by the three goals from junior Colleen McClain. Senior Jane Sadler, junior Ryleigh Bone, sophomore Mia Bonini, junior Hayley Kusserow and freshman Emily Bush also added scores in the game.

“The draws were not going our way and their fast break was killing us,” said Wilson. “Once they got that run it was hard to pick up that momentum again.”

St. Francis finished 9-10 on the season.

“It was really tough losing so many players last season,” said Wilson. “We went into the season knowing it was going to be a rebuilding year. But I am really proud of the girls for working hard, especially those that persevered and really improve. I feel a lot of strong potential in our youth.”

The program loses four seniors from the 2014 team and returns a strong group of juniors and underclassman.

“It is exciting to see the potential of the youth coming up,” said Wilson.
