Lacrosse Drops Weekend Finale in Overtime

PLEASONTON, Calif. – The St. Francis lacrosse team had a great team effort in a 10-9 overtime loss to Foothill Saturday afternoon to close out a two-game Bay Area road trip.

St. Francis (2-5) got goals from six different players in the loss. Junior midfielder Sarah Westover scored three goals and added an assist and freshmen Jade Borg had two goals and two assists. Senior Maggie Anderson tallied three points with a goal and two assists.

The Troubadours had stellar performances by senior Meg Anderson and junior Emily Bush in the midfield. Both players contributed a tireless effort on defense and each added a goal. Senior Kelly Chavez anchored the defense with several big defensive plays, including one forced turnover and two ground balls.

Juliette Vielhauer and Emily Bush also scored for the Troubies.

Junior Avery Myers played a physical and scrappy game and freshmen goalie Kate Macintyre was solid in goal, stopping seven shots in the second half and overtime.

On Friday, the team lost 14-4 to Amador Valley, one of the better teams in California in torrential rain. Sophomore goalie Maggie Pinkston stood strong in the net with 12 saves. Meg Anderson and Westover each had three draw controls and combined for three goals, while Chavez led the defensive effort with a team-high four ground balls.

St. Francis returns home to Mather Sports Complex Tuesday night to host Bella Vista. The JV team will open play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7:00 p.m. St. Francis will play five of their next six games at home after playing six of the their first seven on the road.
