Lacrosse Loses to Tough Cal High Squad

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis lacrosse lost an 18-6 decision to Cal High Tuesday night at Mather Sports Center.

“We knew it was going to be a really good game,” said Wilson. “They are a very tough team. We decided it was going to be a game of little tiny wins and a goals game.”

The Troubadours opened the scoring with a goal by Hayley Kusserow. But Cal High ran off six straight and 13 total in the first half. Kusserow added a second goal for the Troubies in the first half.

Senior Jane Sadler scored twice and Meg Anderson and Colleen McClain added scores.

“We settled the ball a lot better today,” said Wilson. “It was really hard for us on Friday and Saturday so we did a lot of work on it this week, recognizing good shots to take and how to not to force things.”

Junior goalie Maddie Merwin had 12 saves in the game.

“Maddie played great today,” said Wilson. “She keeps getting better and better. Our defense was working hard. There were little things that we are getting better at and I am happy with that.”

Senior Shannon Geary led the Grizzlies with seven goals.

St. Francis travels to play at Davis on Thursday with the JV starting at 5:30 p.m. and varsity contest 7:30 p.m.
