MATHER, Calif. – St. Francis built a three-goal lead in the second half and held on for a 11-10 win as Maggie Pinkston stopped two shots in the final seconds to defeat St. Francis of Mountain View 11-10 Friday night.

“We totally gritted that game out,” said Co-Head Coach Julia Southard. “We had a lot of team connections and it was a total team effort.  It was the first time we have that this season.”

The game was tightly contested as the team exchanged goals over the first 25 minutes, resulting in a 5-5 tie at the break. The game remained tied at 7 before the Troubadours broke out a three-goal advantage at 10-7 and 11-8.

“We were distributing the ball and sharing the wealth,” said Southard of the keys in the second half. “We have been working on that in practice and it was not just one person. We were able to get some good assists and having some playmakers out there helps us.”

The Lancers would rally late with back-to-back goals to pull within one at 11-10. Pinkston stopped two shots in the final seconds to secure the victory.

“Being a goalie is interesting because you have a lot of ups and downs in a game,” said Southard. “What matters you are making saves at the right time. She definitely stepped up and made some huge saves down the stretch.”

Junior Sarah Westover led the team with five goals and had 15 draw controls in the contest. Sophomore Juliette Vielhauer scored twice and senior Meg Anderson added a pair of goals to go with a team-high tying three ground balls. Senior Maggie Anderson added a goal with two assists.

Senior Emily Bush had three ground balls and Marin Anderson and Kismet Gill each added two each.

Senior Erika Palmer added a first-half goal for the Troubadours.
