Razo Leads Victory over Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Julia Razo helped the Troubadours build a first-half lead and cruise to a 59-20 victory over Franklin Tuesday night.

“It felt great,” said Razo of her contribution. “I have been waiting so long just to get in there and play how I can play.”

Razo scored seven of her nine points and grabbed five rebounds as St. Francis posted a 23-6 lead at the half. The Troubadours went on a 14-0 run to break open a 4-4 game over the first and second quarters. Razo hit a three-pointer, layup and two free throws and added a third quarter basket in the second half.

“I thought Julia had a very solid game both offensively and defensively,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “She was under control and made some nice shots and got some good boards.”

St. Francis (17-7, 7-5) put the game out of reach in the third with a 27-point quarter. Lauren Craig, who did not score in the first half after picking up two early fouls, had 11 points in the second half and finished with a double-double after grabbing 15 rebounds.

“She owned the third quarter,” said Pitton of Craig. “She got basically every rebound out there and scored a lot of points. I was happy to see that.”

Senior Susie Rogers was solid with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. Kyra Huffman scored 10 points, notching four consecutive baskets during one stretch in the third, and recorded five boards.

“We played a well-executed game plan and shared the ball well. We got a lot of contributions from a lot of people.”

St. Francis returns home for their final regular season home game Friday against Monterey Trail.

“We need to take care of our business and secure the third place spot,” said Pitton. “Our senior night is a fun celebration to recognize all the contributions our four seniors have made over the course of four years.”

The two teams are tied for third place in the Delta League standings.

“We have to go for 50-50 balls and when we are boxing out go for the ball,” said Razo of the strategy against Monterey Trail.

St. Francis will honor their four seniors in a pre-game ceremony Friday, including Rogers, Maureen Cobile, Katy Glime and Isabel Soloaga.
