SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising senior Ryleigh Bone was selected to represent Northern California at the 2014 US Lacrosse National Tournament in Bel Air, Md., from May 24-25.

Bone, who hails from Granite Bay, Calif., was selected to the Nor Cal Team 1 after tryouts April 27 in Atherton, Calif. She is among the 40 players chosen to play on one of the two Northern California teams and they represent 23 different high school programs. She will be coached by Amy Harms (St. Ignatius) and Rachael Martinez (Cal High).

Bone ranked tied for third on the team with 18 goals and fifth with 25 points during the 2014 season. She scored in nine games, recording a single-game best three goals four times. The 5-6 midfielder had 61 shots on the season.

“The national tournament team is a really exciting team,” said St. Francis Head Coach Kristy Wilson. “They have two teams go and it is really hard to make the first team. Ry did a great job at tryouts. She will get to play with some of the best of Northern California and play against the best of the East. It is such a different level.”

The teams will also have the opportunity to attend the NCAA Division I Final Four on Friday evening and finals on Sunday at Towson University.

The National Tournament (formerly known as WDNT: Women’s Division National Tournament) began in 1933 and will be played for the 82nd time this weekend. It is one of the largest women’s lacrosse events in the nation.

“It is such an increased level of physicality and the players have amazing stick skills,” said Wilson of the East Coast teams. “They are all ambidextrous and their transition game is flawless. It is a great lacrosse atmosphere. She is going to have a great time and learn a lot. She will do well.”

The Nor Cal 1 team opens with a game against a squad from South Florida in pool play on Saturday.
