Seven Water Polo Standouts Earn Academic All-America Honors
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Seven St. Francis water polo players earned Academic All-America honors from USA Water Polo, the organization announced. Student-athletes needed a 3.6 GPA on a scale of 4.0 to qualify, while those that received a 4.0 GPA were honored as outstanding achievers.
Senior Lauren Charter garnered Academic All-America honors with outstanding achievement designation for qualifying with a 4.0 GPA or better for the second consecutive season. Juniors Maggie Oys and Caroline Urkov joined Charter with the elite distinction.
Oys, who is from Davis, leads the team with 13 goals and 20 points so far this season. Charter is second on the team with 12 goals and Urkov has two goals and six assists.
Juniors Kira Chavez, Madalyn Lavezzo, Sam Reinl, and Julie Zanobini were also named Academic All-America honorees.
Reinl is fourth on the team with eight goals, while Zanobini has seven goals and six assists. Chavez, who is from El Dorado Hills, has four goals and a team-best eight assists. Lavezzo has three goals on the season.
The St. Francis water polo team hosts Bella Vista on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Jesuit.
