Strong Defensive Effort and Nine Three-Pointers Lead Basketball to Win
ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball team posted a 62-24 victory Thursday night over Oakmont behind the strength of a strong defensive effort and nine three-pointers.
“I thought they really took to heart keeping the tempo up,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We got after it defensively and we really pushed the ball down the floor. When we had opportunities to shoot, we were looking to shoot the ball.”
The Troubadours made nine three-pointers in the contest from five different players. Junior Susie Rogers had three on the game as part of her team-high 12-point effort to go with 11 rebounds and seven assists. Junior Isabel Soloaga and
Amanda Davenport each connected on a pair of triples and senior Raven Robinson and junior Kristi Edrosolan added one each.
“We had a great warmup and came out with intensity and focus,” said Soloaga. “We played as a team tonight.”
The Trouabdours jumped out to a 14-0 advantage and held the Vikings to just nine points in the first half to build a 21-point halftime advantage. St. Francis held the Vikings to just one basket in both the second and third quarters.
“It was a good team win and our defense played well,” said senior Amanda Davenport, who finished with six points. “We had a lot of different people contribute. We are ready to go into Saturday.”
Sophomore Lauren Craig finished with 11 points and seven boards. Senior Abby Dow added six points and three steals. Junior Danika Bailey led the team with four steals on the night.
The Troubadours (9-5) won their third consecutive game. They return to action against Christian Brothers Saturday in the annual Holy Court matchup.
