Track and Field Advances at Section Trials
10 Individual Qualifiers and Both Relays to Run Friday
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team advanced both relays and a strong contingent across the sprint events to put the team in contention for the finals on Friday. The Troubadours are the defending section champions from 2013.
St. Francis flexed its strength in the 400 meters as sophomore Lillian Enes (57.35), Sydney Hunter (57.71) and Ariane Arndt (59.34) each won their heats to advance to Friday’s finals. Arndt also qualified in the 800 meters in 2:17.02, while Hunter was eighth in the 200 meters in 25.63 to qualify for the final.
Senior Amanda Schnabel advanced in both hurdle events, clocking a personal-best 14.98 to finish sixth in the 100 hurdles and was seventh in the 300 hurdles in 45.45.
St. Francis scored six points in the discus Wednesday behind the third-place finish by Kayla O’Brine, who recorded a throw of 132-5.
The Troubadour relays easily advanced with the 4×100-meter relay posting the top time in 48.42, while the 4×400-meter relay ranked third after prelims with a 3:58.37.
Finals will be contested on Friday for all the sprints, as well as the 1600m, 3200m, shot put and high jumps.
The top eight score and top 12 overall at sections advance to Sac-Joaquin Section Masters on May 29.
