Track and Field Advances Strong Contingent into Section Finals
ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis relays started and ended the Sac-Joaquin Section Trials with strong results as the Troubadours had an impressive night to setup a chance to defend their section title on Friday night.
The 4×100-meter relay (Kiani Reyna, Ariane Arndt, Lilly Enes and Meaghan Rogers) posted a 48.05 in the afternoon heat, the second-fastest time of the season, to win their heat and record the top time entering finals. Reyna, Enes and Arndt joined with Elizabeth Hennessy to clock a 3:53.53 to win the second heat and enter as the top seed on Friday in the 4×400-meter relay.
Arndt advanced in both her individual events. She won the third heat of the 400m (57.33) to join Enes in the top final. Enes had the sixth-fastest time in 56.94 to place second in her heat. Arndt also won her heat of the 800 to easily make the final on Friday.
Hennessy was 10th overall in 46.43 in the 300m hurdles, qualifying for the consolation final with a chance to advance to Masters. Freshman Serena Shimada and Hennessy placed 21st and 25th in the 100m hurdles with times of 16.38 and 16.63. The top 16 runners in each event advanced to Friday.
Sophomore Teresa Lee cleared 4-10 on her third attempt but missed on all three attempts at 5-0 to finish 18th in the high jump. Rogers broke 13 seconds for the second consecutive week with a 12.92 in 100m, qualifying to Friday 15th overall. She will also compete in the long jump final.
The St. Francis distance crew will compete in finals in the 1600m and 3200m on Friday. Sophomore Sydney Vandegrift is ranked second in the 3200m and senior Chase Worthen is sixth in the 1600m.
The girls long jump starts at 3 p.m. on Friday with running events beginning at 6 p.m.
