Track and Field Wins Three Events at Arcadia Invitational

News

ARCADIA, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team had a big weekend at the Arcadia Invitational, winning three events as senior Ariane Arndt captured the Open 800 meters, sophomore Sydney Vandegrift won the 3200-meter rated race Friday night and the 4×400-meter relay closed the meet with come-from-behind win.

“Everyone performed as well as I could have hoped,” said Interim Head Coach Rod Jett. “The 4×100 started off with a season best and won their heat by a wide margin. They ran great. Ariane is special. She repeated her performance from last year when she ran 2:10 in the 800m and had a season-best in the 400. The 4×400 was just excitement. It was a great day.”

Arndt won the Open 800 at the Arcadia Invitational for the second consecutive year with a time of 2:10.46 just off her school record 2:10.05 set last year at the same meet. She came back to finish fourth in the 400m Invitational Saturday night in a season-best 55.45, just off her school record of 55.39. Arndt also contributed in both relays, completing a busy day with Kiani Reyna, Elizabeth Hennessy and Lily Enes in the 4×400-meter relay. They won the seeded event in 3:54.34, the third-fastest time in school history. Arndt closed the race with an epic final lap, passing four schools over the final lap.

Vandegrift won the 3200-meter Rated race Friday night in a time of 10:47.28, the third-fastest time in school history. She ranks behind only Lauren LaRocco (10:23.10, 2014) and Peyton Bilo (10:31.67, 2015) set at the last two CIF State Championship meets.

The 4×100-meter relay (K. Reyna, Arndt, Enes and Meaghan Rogers) ran a season-best 48.75 to win the third heat and finish fifth overall.

The 4×1600-meter relay (Gabrielle Dyer, Sophie DeBenedetti, Alana Reyna and Chase Worthen) finished 24th in the seeded race Friday night in a school-record 22:38.81.

Enes, who also ran on both relays, was 23rd in the 400 meters in 58.40. Other individual event participants in the meet included junior Elizabeth Hennessy in the 300m hurdles (28th, 47.23) and senior Nicole Spring in the triple jump (8th, 34-10.75).
