Track Wins Completes Busy Week
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team participated in three meets this week highlighted by sweeping the “Hat Trick” at the Bronco Distance Carnival on Friday.
Senior Ariane Arndt won the 800 meters in 2:17.68 and 1600m in 5:04.58, while sophomore Sydney Vandegrift clocked an 11:03.25 to win the 3200m. She was also seventh in the 160m (5:10.88). Senior Chase Worthen and Sophie DeBenedetti also had top 10 finishes in the 800m, posting times of 2:23.76 and 2:25.83 to finish seventh and 10th overall.
All three winners received the ceremonial winning hat.
At the Husky Invitational on Saturday, senior Lilly Enes was the top finisher with a fourth-place in the 200m (26.42). Senior Kiani Reyna was seventh (26.86) and clocked 13.21 in the 100m to place 12th. Meaghan Rogers was fifth in both the long jump (15-10.75) and triple jump (31-1.5). Jordan Walsh was tied for sixth in the high jump (4-4) and Steffi Keene was sixth in the 100m hurdles (18.10). Katherine Gaston placed ninth in the 200m (27.29). The 4×100 meter relay (Reyna, Enes, Rogers and Nicole Spring) placed second in 49.67. Juliana Cerezo-Rangel had a throw of 31-4 to place seventh in the shot put.
In the first Delta League dual meet, St. Francis swept all 10 running events on Wednesday. Seniors Chase Worthen and Nicole Spring and junior Elizabeth Hennessy were double winners. Worthen won the 800 (2:28.32) and 3200 (11:50.53) and Spring took the long jump (16-5) and triple jump (33-5). Hennessy took the hurdle double with a 17.19 in the 100m and 46.85 in the 300m. Allie Lourim won the 1600m (6:06.89) and Olivia Birmingham cleared 4-10 to win the high jump.
In the sprints, Arndt won the 400m in 57.81, Reyna was first in the 100m (12.95) and Enes won the 200m (26.03). Both relays also crossed the line first. Cerezo-Rangel had best discus throw at 84-4 to place second ahead of teammate Samantha Carrothers (84-2).
St. Francis will run in the Rio Linda Invitational on Tuesday before taking off the Easter weekend.
