ELK GROVE, Calif. – Pleasant Grove held St. Francis to four points over the final eight minutes to pull out a 46-32 victory over the Troubadours.

St. Francis had rallied to tie the game at 27 in the third quarter after falling behind by double digits in the first half. But the Troubadours were out-scored 19-5 over the rest of the game as the Eagles pulled out the victory in a game televised by Access Sacramento. It will re-air on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

“We really made a good push in the second and third quarters to tie the game up at 27,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “It seemed like we let up a bit and they hit a couple shots that were defended well. Offensively, we made a couple of bad decisions and didn’t make many shots from there on.”

Junior Lauren Craig had a team-best 11 points and junior Kyra Huffman added seven points.

“I thought Lauren played very well,” said Pitton. “Juliana gave us some very good minutes in the first half when I had to go to her and Janae did some good stuff defensively. Offensively, scoring 32 points is not going to win many games.”

St. Francis lost for the first time in six games, falling to 14-6 and 4-4 overall in a three-way tie in the league standings in third place with Monterey Trail and Sheldon.

“Every game is big for us at this point and certainly Davis will be a tough one going into their house,” said Pitton. “We can certainly do it. We just have to find a way to put everything together.”

The Troubadours travel to league-leading Davis on Monday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
