Varsity Falls to Petaluma in Pleasant Valley; Freshman Win Kennedy Tournament

CHICO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity team fell by two points to Petaluma in the third-place game of the Pleasant Valley Viking Tournament on Saturday 38-36.
The game was tied at the half after a strong second quarter by the Troubadours, resulting in 15 points. St. Francis led by one heading into the final quarter but Petaluma pulled it out by a basket.

Amanda Davenport led the team in scoring with eight points. Sophomore Lauren Craig added six points, while Kristen Lau scored five in the contest. Susie Rogers, Abby Dow and Jillian Balbierz each scored four points.
St. Francis (2-2) returns to action Monday night at Del Oro. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

St. Francis finished third at the Holiday Hoops Tournament, posting a 64-28 win over Roseville. They went 2-1 overall in the tournament and are 3-1 on the season.

Yvonna Molondanoff and Julia Razo each scored 13 points to lead the Troubabours to the 36-point victory. Overall, 10 players scored in the contest. Ugonne Okugo added nine points and Maddy Haynes scored eight in the victory.

St. Francis (3-1) travels to Del Oro on Monday for a 6 p.m. scheduled tip.

FRESHMAN SCORE: ST. FRANCIS 44, KENNEDY 20

Reina Deol scored a game-high 14 points to lead the St. Francis freshman team to a 44-20 victory over host Kennedy in the Robby Nakamura Holiday Tournament.

“The fact that we turned it around in the second half makes really proud of my team,” said Deol after the game. “It felt great but I could not do it without my team. It was awesome.”

The Troubadours never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 5-0 lead and led 10-7 after the first quarter. The Cougars kept it close in the second, tying the game at 10 before Deol scored seven straight points to put St. Francis up 17-12 at the break.

In the third quarter, St. Francis broke open the game with a 15-3 spurt. Ally Jeffers added nine points, while Steffi Keene contributed seven.

“The girls really deserve it,” said Head Coach Tom Beam. “They came out ready to play. We have come together as a team and this was our first test.”

St. Francis held Kennedy in single digits each quarter, including just three points in the third.

“One of our primary objectives is to create chaos and that is what they did,” said Beam.

St. Francis is 4-0 on the season and travels to Del Oro on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
